Working A Lifetime
As the economy changes, it is becoming apparent that young workers today will face a very different future than their parents or grandparents. For decades, the promise of Social Security has provided an economic base for retirees. And for many, company pensions coupled with Social Security has provided an income base nearly equal to full employment. Today, the promise of a company pension has dramatically changed, and the promise of Social Security is being questioned. Increasingly, workers must assume responsibility for ensuring their own financial future. This presentation outlines the new conditions for the younger workers, and suggests that they forgo the promise of retirement. It proposes that young workers consider working a lifetime, making adjustments as they enter different phases of their lives. The commitment to work a lifetime may be the best strategy to adapt to the new economic realities, and the best means of experiencing life fulfillment.
